How to choose a tutor: prices in Azerbaijan in 2026

This article in other languages: Azərbaycanca · Русский

In short: half of the tutors on the Yolutap map charge 40–80 ₼ a month, and the typical price is 50 ₼ a month. That usually means 8 lessons of 90 minutes, so about 6–7 ₼ per lesson. Two thirds of tutors give the first lesson for free.

This is not a guess: the figures come from 242 tutor profiles published on our map as of 29 October 2026.

One tutor can teach several subjects, so the total is more than 242.

What the price depends on

  • One-to-one or in a group. Tutors who only teach one-to-one charge 12.5 ₼ per lesson on average, those who only teach groups charge 7.5 ₼. (There are 15 profiles in each group, so treat this as a guide, not an exact price.)
  • Baku or online. An in-person lesson in Baku costs 10 ₼ on average; tutors who only teach online charge 5.6 ₼.
  • District. Within Baku the difference is noticeable: Narimanov — 12.5 ₼ per lesson, Yasamal — 10 ₼, Khatai — 9.2 ₼, Nasimi — 8.8 ₼, Binagadi — 8.3 ₼, Sabunchu and Khirdalan — 6–6.5 ₼. Each district has 6–11 profiles; the figures will get more precise as the map grows.
  • Lesson length and number of lessons. The most common format is 8 lessons a month of 90 minutes each. When comparing “50 ₼ a month”, always ask: how many lessons, and how long?

How to choose: 6 questions for the first lesson

Two thirds of the tutors on our map give the first lesson for free. Use it to get to know each other and ask:

  1. How will you assess my child's level? A good tutor checks the gaps first and only then builds a plan.
  2. How will we see results in 1–2 months? Expect specifics: test scores, topics covered, homework done independently.
  3. Are lessons one-to-one or in a group? How many children are in the group, and are they at the same level?
  4. Do you set homework, and do you check it?
  5. When and how do you update parents on progress? For example, a short WhatsApp report at the end of the month.
  6. What happens if a lesson is missed? Usually the lesson is moved if you warn in advance — agree on this right away.

Warning signs

  • Promises like “700 points guaranteed”. The result also depends on the child, and an honest tutor says so.
  • A request to pay several months in advance, especially before the first meeting.
  • After 3–4 lessons the child can't explain what they have learned.
  • The tutor simply does the homework for the child.

Online or close to home?

89% of the tutors on our map also teach online, and online lessons are usually cheaper. But for younger pupils and children who find it hard to stay focused, in-person lessons usually work better. To avoid long trips, look for a tutor near your home: the map has a filter by district and metro.

Before you look for a tutor: what is your child drawn to?

Sometimes the problem is not the subject but a lack of interest. If your child is preparing for an exam but doesn't know which field to choose, it's worth understanding their strengths first — then the money spent on tutors goes where it's needed. You can start with the free career test.

How we calculated

We took the 242 tutor profiles published on the Yolutap map as of 29 October 2026 (clubs not included). Prices are set by the tutors themselves. The price per lesson is the monthly or package price divided by the number of lessons; prices below 3 ₼ or above 200 ₼ per lesson (most likely typos) were left out. These are the prices of tutors on our map, not of the whole market. We will keep the data up to date.
